Our first luxury tour in Spain & Portugal was very well received – but we’ve improved it for 2021 with two extra loop days, a bit more relaxation time, and a bit more time in Portugal (as requested). This is a very special tour for a limited audience, strictly limited to 12 customer cars (our typical tours are based around 20 cars). It’s still first and foremost about the roads and the driving… but there’s more emphasis on the word “holiday” too.
Summary:
Monday – Make sure you’re at the Portsmouth ferry terminal by 15:00 as the boat leaves at 17:00 and it won’t wait for you!
Tuesday – Pamplona
When you arrive in Spain you’ll drive off the boat and be guided by your tour managers (who have already provided you with a satnav and walkie talkie) to our first hotel, which is arguably the best in Pamplona. We’ll be in time to enjoy a few drinks before dinner, and tomorrow brings more options…
Wednesday – Pamplona, optional loop day
Choices, choices! Do you fancy a lie in, a swim, a pamper session, a spa treatment, or perhaps a walk into the old town? Pamplona is a beautiful city, probably most famous for the San Fermin Festival, where the highlight is the world famous “running of the bulls”.
Or you could come out for a drive…

Thursday – Pamplona, optional loop day
We love it here so much we’re staying 3 nights!! Once again you have the choice – a drive out, a walk into Pamplona, a day in the spa and the pool, or something completely different! Perhaps you fancy a trip in to Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim there…
Friday – Lerma
Time to move on, but we’re not going too far.
Once again we’re heading for the best hotel in town, in this case the magnificent Ducal Palace in Lerma. Construction started in 1601 under the orders of the Duke of Lerma at the time, but don’t worry we’ve been there recently and it’s definitely finished.

Saturday – Extremadura, near the Portuguese border
We’ll leave Lerma and head for the extremadura – with some easy driving and some proper fun along the way.
Sunday – Portugal
We’ll spend the day today in Portugal, and in fact we’ll spend the night in Portugal too.
But first, we’ll go exploring in the Serra da Estrela national park – recently visited by our friend Henry Catchpole at Carfection Films:
Once we’ve played in the mountains we’ll head north to our hotel, which sits atop the thermal spa at Longroiva:
Monday – Longroiva, optional loop day
We’re in Portugal, what do you want to do? Laze in the thermal swimming pool, go for a walk or a drive in the local area, explore some Portuguese countryside, or perhaps simply head back to yesterday’s mountain for another go? Your choice… make the most of it.
Tuesday – Oviedo
Across the border and back into Spain, a quick stop for coffee and chocolates and then up and over “Dusty Mountain” – and then up to Oviedo for a little more luxury in our next overnight stop – the 5* Castillo del Bosque La Zoreda:
Wednesday – near the boat
Final day of “proper” driving, ending just an hour’s drive from the boat, so we don’t have to get up too early tomorrow.
Thursday – We leave our last hotel to head for the boat at Bilbao, just an hour away. What a week!
Friday – Rest and relaxation aboard the ship home to the UK. Plenty of time to discuss the week’s events with your fellow tourers and get over the hangover from last night’s party, before the drive home and a night in your own bed. We arrive in Plymouth on Friday morning so you’ll have time to get home for a restful weekend.
