Norway has to be seen to be believed. In such a large country, with such a small population, you are able to experience miles and miles of spectacular views, with fjords and waterfalls to accompany every daily adventure. And the roads? Wow.
This tour also lends itself to a wider variety of cars as the average speeds are significantly lower than, for example, our Spain & Portugal tour. Do you own a classic, or perhaps a modern classic? Bring it along, and join our Morgan Plus 8 and Honda S2000 tour cars.
With years of experience of road trips to Norway, let us show you the highlights of this wonderful country.
Itinerary:
Monday – Come and meet your tour managers dockside in Hull on this Monday evening, as we prepare to cross the channel to start our journey to Norway.
Tuesday – We’ll arrive in Rotterdam nice and early, which is useful as we have to get straight on the road and head north east through Holland and into Germany. Tonight we will stop on the German/Danish border – literally, you’ll be able to walk into Denmark from the hotel car park.
Wednesday – An easy run north through Denmark. It’s not particularly exciting but it’s stress free thanks to good roads and minimal traffic. This afternoon we’ll board the Fjordline FSTR which will bring us to Kristiansand. Once off the ferry, we’ve got a 5 minute drive to our waterside hotel.

Thursday – After a hearty Norwegian breakfast we’ll leave Kristiansand and immediately head inland and away from population. It won’t take long for us to reach the perfectly surfaced and lightly trafficked inland roads…
Friday – We’ll continue north today and get further into Norway’s “interior”, with majestic waterfalls and stunning scenery around every corner. Tonight we’ll reach Loen, where we are staying for 2 nights.
Saturday – No luggage today as we’re returning to the same hotel, in Loen. So, what are we doing today? Well, our loop begins with a quick trip down to Oye, before heading back up the valley to take a ride over the Geiranger fjord.

Said by many to be the most beautiful in Norway, the Geiranger fjord is also home to many waterfalls (including the “Seven Sisters”) and allows access to the mountain above the town of Geiranger, from where the views are truly magnificent.
From here we can also head over to the amazing Trollstigen (The Troll’s Ladder), which has to be seen to be believed. Standing at the head of a glacier-carved valley, the waterfalls and tarmac share space on the mountain side.
Sunday – The Laerdal tunnel is the longest road tunnel in the world, at 24.5km long. It’s an impressive structure for sure, but we won’t go all the way through it. The road over the top is much more interesting, and includes a spectacular view over the fjord at Aurland.
We’ll come down from the lookout to the small town of Fläm, home to a rather remarkable train ride – and to complete our tourism studies it’s only right we go for a ride on this train.

The train makes multiple stops on the way up the valley, and on the way back down again – some of which make for wonderful photos.

Monday – We’ll continue to head south today along some fabulous, quiet, smooth Norwegian roads. We may well see a few more waterfalls, drive through a few more tunnels, and see spectacular scenery. It never gets old.

Tuesday – We’ll continue to make progress towards the southern coast again today, ensuring we enjoy the sights and smells along the way – and our first stop is Lysebotn.

Often quoted as being one of the most dramatic, scenic, or dangerous roads in the world (we guess it depends on your choice of vehicle!), the Lysebotn approach road is quite remarkable.

We’ll end the day back at Kristiansand, back at that same waterside hotel from a week ago – and we’ll reflect on what a week Norway has shown us.
Wednesday – An early start to the board the fast cruise ferry back to Hirtshals before we start heading south through Denmark. We’ll finish the day in northern Germany (with some opportunities for a high speed run or two) before our last tour day tomorrow.
Thursday – We’re booked on to a Eurotunnel crossing late this afternoon (although a few people may be heading for Rotterdam to take the overnight boat to Hull once more) so it’s an easy motorway day to get us through Germany, Holland, Belgium, and into northern France.
